Therapeutic Massage Therapy

At Weston Medical Health Center, we understand that life’s mental and physical stresses create tightness and pain in the body. Massage therapy works to reduce and eliminate these stresses, by reducing tension in the muscles, increasing blood flow, allowing greater flexibility, and working out muscle impingement and sore knots. Massage therapy involves acting on the body with pressure to manipulate the superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.

This is done by using various techniques, to enhance function, relieve pain, decrease muscle reflex activity, promote relaxation and well-being.

Our massage therapists are trained in a variety of massage therapy techniques such as:

  • Trigger Point Therapy – Used to treat painful areas of muscle that contain trigger points, or knots of muscle that form when muscles do not relax. Many times, such knots can be felt under the skin. Trigger points may irritate the nerves around them and cause referred pain, or pain that is felt in another part of the body. Trigger point massage works the muscle to break down these points and provide relief.
  • Swedish/Relaxation – A therapeutic massage session using an integrate d combination of massage styles; designed to relieve muscle tension tension, aid in stabilization of blood pressure and blood sugar levels while calming the nervous system.
  • Deep tissue – Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints)
  • Sports Massage – Techniques are specific to the athlete’s sport of choice, focusing on areas of the body that are overused and stressed from repetitive and often aggressive movements. Sport Massage enhances pre-event preparation and reduces recovery time for maximum performance during training or after an event. Sports massage promotes flexibility, reduces fatigue, improves endurance, helps prevent injuries and prepares the body and mind for optimal performance.
  • Active Release Technique – is a soft tissue system/movement-based technique It is used to treat problems with muscles, tendons, ligaments, fascia and nerves.
  • Shiatsu – Finger pressure massage which incorporates breathing, stretching and rotating for a whole body natural energy transfer experience.

At Weston Medical Health Center, we use massage therapy to complement the efforts of our wellness programs to ensure our patients benefit from stress management and the prevention of chronic pain.
